Welcome Back to Beijing
After a long period of time away, I finally returned to the city I call my second home – Beijing. Walking out of the airport and feeling the crisp air for the first time in months immediately brought back a wave of nostalgia. As I embarked on my adventure to rediscover the city, I was excited to see what had changed and what still remained the same.
The Ever-changing Cityscape
One of the most noticeable differences was the modernization and development of the city. New high-rise buildings and shopping centers had sprung up in different neighbourhoods. The once-narrow streets were now wider and more accessible for pedestrians. However, amidst all the changes, traditional landmarks like the Forbidden City and the Great Wall still stood tall and proud. It was fascinating to see how the city had found a way to blend its ancient culture with modern progress.
The Vibrant Food Culture
One of my biggest joys in Beijing has always been the food. From street vendors to fine dining restaurants, Beijing offers a plethora of options for every palate. I was ecstatic to reacquaint myself with some of my favorite dishes, including the famous Peking duck and the delicious lamb skewers. However, what truly amazed me was how diverse the food culture had become. I was able to indulge in international cuisine from all over the world without leaving the city. It was a reminder that Beijing is constantly evolving and embracing new ideas and flavors.
The Incredible People
Although the city itself is captivating, it's the people that truly make Beijing special. I was overwhelmed by the warm welcome I received from friends old and new. Whether it was catching up over hot pot or exploring new parts of the city, every moment spent with them was unforgettable. It was also enlightening to interact with locals and understand their perspectives on the changes happening within the city. Their resilience and adaptability were a true inspiration.
Overall, returning to Beijing was a surreal experience that left me filled with appreciation and admiration for the city. While some things have changed, many things remain the same. The city is a mountain of culture, history, and progress and I am grateful for the opportunity to witness its evolution over time. I promise myself that I will not wait as long before my next visit.
